The Beacon Process

There are three distinct processes that underpin the Beacon Scholarship:

A. The Initial Award

B. Ongoing Monitoring of Performance

C. Scholarship Renewal

The steps in each process are as follows:

A. The Initial Award

    1. Parents obtain and complete a Beacon Scholarship application form;
    2. Current school provides a confidential report on the child;
    3. Prospective scholars and parents are invited for interview and assessment;
    4. Parents are invited to submit a Financial Disclosure form;
    5. A Beacon School invites the applicant for interview and assessment;
    6. A decision is made on whether or not a Beacon Scholarship is to be awarded;
    7. An Award Letter is sent by The Beacon Equity Trust to parents;
    8. Parents accept the award and its Terms and Conditions by completing the Award Acceptance Form;
    9. A fee deposit is paid by parents to the Beacon School;
    10. A Mentor is assigned to the Beacon Scholar.

 B. Ongoing Monitoring of Performance

    1. At the beginning of each term the assigned Mentor and the Beacon Scholar meet and specific academic, co-curricular, social influence and citizenship targets are set. These targets are formalised on a Target Sheet and sent to The Beacon Equity Trust;
    2. Targets are accepted by The Beacon Equity Trust;
    3. Every two weeks the Beacon Scholar reviews their targets;
    4. Each term the Mentor meets the Beacon Scholar and discusses performance against target. A record is made on the Target Sheet which is sent to The Beacon Equity Trust at the end of the term. If necessary, new targets are set and previous ones adjusted to reflect ongoing reality;
    5. A copy of the Target Sheet is sent to the Beacon Scholar's parents.

 C. Scholarship Renewal

    1. At the end of an academic year and before the beginning of the next, parents must complete a short application for continuation of the Beacon Scholarship, including updating their Financial  Disclosure;
    2. On receipt of the application, The Beacon Equity Trust and the Beacon School assess Scholar performance against targets and decide whether or not to continue the scholarship for the next academic year;
    3. Parents are informed by letter of whether or not a Scholarship Continuation has been awarded;
    4. Parents accept the award and its Terms and Conditions by completing the Award Acceptance Form.
