Angel Mailu

Angel Large13 years old, attending Peponi School, Nairobi. Angel was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in June, 2016.

Angel has a positive attitude, is focused and determined. Her final CE grades were mainly Bs and she did well to achieve a B in both Geography and History, a three grade improvement since the start of the year. Her effort grades averaged between 2 and 3.

Angel was a main character in the school play. She represented the school at the main MSMUN conference. She took her LAMDA Grade 3 exam in June. She was lead chorister in the school choir and led her house in Inter House singing. She helped organise Sports Day, played in the hockey, rounders and netball B teams and went on two climbing expeditions. She was appointed House Captain at the start of the year, where she showed her leadership skills across the age groups. She is a good role model, voted by her peers to represent her tutor group on the School Council and on the Anti-Bullying Committee. She was awarded Good Citizen status and a Leadership Certificate by the Headmaster.

Angel played a key role in a group that visited Turi Children’s Project every Saturday, setting a wonderful example to the younger pupils. She organised a group of peers at home to collect clothes and food for the children’s home, and books for the local library. She is a Smile Train Ambassador and helps in her mother’s kindergarten.

Beacon Workshop Participation

Angel's Summer 2018 Beacon Citizenship Project continued with her theme from last year - Cleft Lip and Palate.

At Leadership Workshops, Angel became more involved as the year progressed and was a good contributor. She was enthusiastic and emotionally involved with her Citizenship Project.
