Darren Mong'are

2023 Darren Paul Mongare large14 years old, attending St. Andrew's School, Turi, Kenya. Darren was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in June 2022.

An academic high-flyer, Darren is always very engaged with his studies. He regularly receives awards for his academic achievement, including the Certificate of Commendation for Maths and Computing, and the Gold Certificate for the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge 2023.

Darren is a talented musician: he has achieved 2 distinctions and a merit in Grade 5 piano, oboe and treble recorder respectively, plays the piano weekly in chapel, and is always ready for an impromptu solo performance – examples include the trumpet on Remembrance Day and a rendition of the National Anthem in an assembly. Always keen to spread his wings, Darren has also joined the cricket squad, represented Turi in the U15 Tennis Tournament and tried rugby.

Darren is building a profile for himself at school: he has worked with the Mental Health Committee, joined the Worship Band and is increasingly confident in public speaking situations.

Darren's Citizenship interests are focused around his love of music and he has considered and explored different ways to be active this field. 

Beacon Workshop Participation 

Darren's 2023 Summer Beacon Citizenship Project was about delivering a music teaching programme to a nearby primary school.

In Leadership Workshops, Darren shows competency in the tasks he undertakes, using his skills to the benefit of his group. He is articulate and expressive.
