Tara Siro

Tara Siro Large14 years old, attending Greensteds International School, Nakuru. Tara was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in June 2020.

Tara previously attended Mount Kenya Academy, a Kenyan 8-4-4 system school. She received the Director’s Award for academic achievement 4 times in 2019. In KCPE she obtained all A's. Her Headteacher described her as “reliable, intelligent, self-driven and aims high”.

Tara plays football and was in the school swimming and track teams. She was actively involved in Model United Nations club.  She plays violin, viola, piano, was in the school orchestra and choir, and took part in poetry recitals and the school play.

Voted in as the Cabinet Secretary of Environmental Health and Sanitation in Mount Kenya Academy school government in 2019, she helped raise awareness of the importance of recycling materials for art - over 70% of the school’s art materials are recycled. She championed for changes in the playing field, kitchen and ablutions areas and received a lot of support from her schoolmates. She was Class Prefect and Art Team Captain. As one of the leading students in the class she helped classmates with topics they found difficult.

Tara volunteers at Inspire Children’s Community Library, catering for children in the Chania informal settlements in Nyeri county. With the church youth group, she also volunteers at various children’s homes. She is involved in school charity activities with the Metropolitan Sanctuary for children with disabilities, hospice care and school feeding programme.
