Wise Musinguzi

Wise Musinguzi Large20 years old, attending the University of Surrey, UK. Wise was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in June 2019.

Wise is studying towards an LLB in Law. He has studied hard this year, joining a focused study group and achieving 2.1 in his first and second semester exams. He participated in the Aspiring Solicitors Commercial Awareness Competition and got to Round 3. During lockdown, he obtained a place on a virtual internship programme run by several top law firms.

He joined the Surrey Debating Society and made it to the Surrey Debate Team. He also took part in one intra-university debating competition. He worked with the Competitions Officer to set up a weekly training scheme, and increased the size of the Surrey team from 4 to 7. Wise has been appointed Competitions Officer for next year.

Wise obtained a post as an International Student Blogger to provide incoming international students from Africa with important information. In lockdown, he advised the University on marketing to potential students from East Africa. He wrote a blog about his Beacon journey which was widely viewed on the Surrey Scholars blog.

He joined the Guildford Leos club (Junior club of the Lions) and aided in planning their Christmas Market. This was successful in raising money for a homeless shelter in Guildford. He attended meetings until lockdown stopped activities, and hopes to lead projects himself next year. He has also kept in contact with ‘The Tomorrow’s African Child Foundation’.

Beacon Workshop Participation

Wise's 2020 Summer Beacon Citizenship Project was about providing career guidance to high school leavers in Uganda.  This was a joint project with Godwill Alendro, also a Beacon Scholar from Uganda.


In Leadership Workshops, Wise has strong analytical and critical thinking skills and a very mature outlook.
