New Beacon School (Zambia) - December 2020

Beacon Equity Trust (BET) Trustees are very pleased to announce the further expansion of the Beacon Programme in Zambia with the signing of American International School of Lusaka (AISL) as a Beacon Partner School.

AISL joins Baobab College and International School of Lusaka (ISL) in Zambia to become the 15th secondary school in the region (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia) to offer The Beacon Scholarship for Schools.

The intention of The Beacon Scholarship for Schools is to enable especially gifted children to obtain a high quality education at a Beacon School which their parents would otherwise be unable to afford, and which will eventually enable them to attain leadership positions in their home country.

Beacon Schools are equal stakeholders alongside BET and Beacon Scholar parents/guardians; each party funds 1/3 of termly tuition fees. The schools are also committed to building the leadership skills of Beacon Scholars, and to mentoring them to help them realise their potential. BET itself independently provides training and mentoring through the development of personal leadership and teambuilding skills. Beacon Scholars are also required to undertake a Citizenship Project every summer and present it to the Beacon Community.

The addition of this top school at secondary level in Zambia continues BET's strategy of building and broadening a vertical platform for developing future leaders. In addition to secondary schools, BET has partnerships to enable entry into six leading international universities via The Beacon Scholarship for University. The Beacon Scholarship for University is available to eligible students from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
