Kreeshi Shavdia

2023 Kreeshi large18 years old, from Kenya, attending the University of Bristol, UK. Kreeshi was awarded a Beacon Scholarship in May 2023.

Kreeshi is studying towards a BSc in Mathematics and Physics. Prior to that, she attended Oshwal Academy, Mombasa. Kreeshi is an academic high achiever: she gained the very highest grades in A-level Further Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry, and was awarded for the highest IGCSE mark in Kenya for Maths, English Language, and ICT.

Kreeshi is also a talented all-rounder: she was the school swim team Captain and has represented Kenya; she enjoys drama and is a LAMDA gold medallist; a good athlete, playing netball and rounders at interschool level; a skilled musician (Grade 6 ABRSM); and she won best speaker award in interschool debates.

Kreeshi has excellent leadership skills. She was Head Girl at school and Secretary General of the MUN. Her previous leadership roles include Vice President of the school's Law Club. Her communication skills are very good, and she is able to motivate others.

Kreeshi’s Citizenship activities include volunteering in the school library, for the KSPCA (animals), in an old people's home and with street children. She also completed 80 hours volunteering as part of her President’s Award and raised money to pay school fees for disadvantaged students.

 

Beacon Workshop Participation

As a new Beacon Scholar, Kreeshi spoke about her experience of service to date, in particular her work supporting communities affected by drought and mentoring of younger peers in effective leadership.
